Apple MacBook Neo

About the Apple MacBook Neo
Available in 4 finishes, the MacBook Neo comes in as Apple's newest and cheapest laptop with further discounts for education and with upgradable storage and Touch ID.
What really stands out here is that Apple haven't cut corners. The chassis is still aluminium like every other MacBook, it has Apple's Liquid Retina display and colour-matched keycaps.
The MacBook Neo is based on an A-series chip architecture and with 8GB of RAM and providing 16-hours of usage on a charge. Even with a lower set of RAM it can still handle basic Apple Intelligence tasks and all the continuity tasks iPhone and iPad users are used to.
There's no MagSafe, but this device is perfect as an entry to the Apple ecosystem and for students who aren't taking on taxing rendering tasks who would benefit from a beefier chip anyway. There's no Force Touch either in the trackpad but for this price these are all trade-offs worth making. I'd suggest going for the larger storage tier though as Touch ID is a great example of security that's almost invisible.
Our thoughts
In the Apple Silicon era, the MacBook Air has long been my recommendation as the perfect laptop for most people. So much so that I took the step down from a MacBook Pro to a M4 MacBook Air at my day job. It's fast, quit and capable.
This new MacBook Neo changes the landscape significantly. For anyone working with graphics, video, audio, code or AI in general will benefit from better throughput that the M-series of chips provide.
For the above use cases, the MacBook Pros will provide plenty more headroom. For everyone else, to get all of the modern conveniences that a MacBook provides, then a MacBook Air will be just fine, even at the base model. The MacBook Neo will be great for students that are taking notes and pulling documents and presentations together.
I love how they've introduced some colour to the lineup, I had seen the previous non-suffixed MacBook of the mid-2010s in person before but at 12" it was too small for my liking. At 13" it is in the right territory of being useable with no compromises around the basics.
